Where Will It End ?

17 Sep

This Blog is well aware – we could not say how – that by convention advice to the Royal Family is given in the very strictest confidence: if you breathe a word even of having been asked – never mind the content – then you will not be asked again. So lest our readers be concerned, we assure them that on this occasion our counsel was not sought before HRHs took legal action over the Duchess’ photos.

One option may be to retain a sense of proportion (perhaps the News Biscuit’s point here ?).

Failing that, this Blog wonders whether suspending Editors and a criminal manhunt for the photographer responsible are not something of an over-reaction. Yes, this is doubtless something of a test case to see how HRHs react, and a point needs to be made and a line drawn in the sand (possibly through the point), but it cannot be that hard for French or Irish opinion to turn against the Royals, and so caution is respectfully advised. If the magazines responsible have calculated their likely damages – and decided the profits outweigh them – then they may well have calculated the next few moves too.
